Cal Fleet Advisor can help you decide what kind of vehicle you need and can refer you to an HVIP-approved dealer. The dealer will walk you through the rest of the steps.
Right now, fully electric and hydrogen-powered trucks and buses qualify. Contact us or check with your dealer for more details on qualifying equipment.
You will need to answer a few questions and bring some paperwork to the dealer. Your fleet advisor can help you, visit Trucks or School Buses.
DAC: Disadvantaged community as defined by the California Climate Investments Priority Population map found here.
ESB: Electric School Bus. An all-electric bus that uses a battery pack to store the electrical energy that powers the drive motor.
HVIP: Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project. This program provides discounts for zero-emissions vehicles.
Infrastructure: This is all the equipment needed to support your ZEV. It might include electrical upgrades, chargers, hydrogen tanks, or fueling equipment.
ZEV: Zero-emissions vehicle. A vehicle that does not have any tailpipe exhaust (except for water in the case of hydrogen fuel cells).
MHD: Medium- and heavy-duty. This includes all vehicles over 8,500 pounds.
TCO: Total cost of ownership. This is the entire cost of a vehicle, including purchase price, taxes, insurance, fuel, maintenance, and registration.
